The Other Way’s Jen was in India for weight loss procedure in 2018

90 Day Fiancé: Another Way Star Jen Boecher details on the show how she met her Indian babe, aspiring Indian model and personal trainer Rishi. However, Jen conveniently forgot to mention that she was in India in 2018… for weight loss surgery! ?
“When I was traveling alone in India, I met Rishi in the hotel lobby,” Jen revealed on the show. Here's the rest of the couple's origin story, as Jen tells it:
He works as a model in a hotel. As soon as we started talking, he started showing me model photos. I just go for the “hard pass” immediately. I'm not interested in him. Absolutely not. I think he's a bit of a jerk, for lack of a better way to put it.
However, after a few days we started hanging out as friends. We met four or five times. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what made me fall in love with Rishi, but, I don't know, I just — I know he's the one.
Within a month of our meeting, he proposed! This was completely unexpected. We didn't discuss the future. We didn't discuss me leaving, staying or anything like that. But I said “yes” without hesitation. It feels good.
After Rishi and I got engaged, I left India but plan to move there soon. Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit and I haven't seen Rishi since. After two years of waiting for the borders to open, I finally moved to India in a week!
Jen undergoes weight loss surgery in India
During the show, Jen revealed to her brother that she could spend 45 days with Rishi while in India. Why did she stay in India for so long? Maybe to get her back from a medical procedure?
Jen underwent intragastric balloon implantation in June 2018, according to a post from a laparoscopic surgeon in India.
According to the surgeon's post, which included a photo of Jen, she weighed 94kg and had a BMI of 33.5 at the time of the operation. (94 kilograms equals a little over 207 pounds.) The post also notes that Jen has a “significant family history of obesity.”
The whole process took less than 20 minutes and Jen reportedly lost 4kg in 5 days. “I want her to relax [sic] 20kg again next year! ! ’ added the surgeon.
It's unclear if Jen and Rishi met on the same trip where she had the intragastric balloon implanted, but it seems likely.
The hospital where Jen had her surgery was in Udaipur, which is in the same state as Rishi's hometown of Jaipur. However, the two cities are more than six hours apart, and it seems that they are not on the same line.
But remember – the two met because Rishi “was working as a model in a hotel”. This easily explains how they met.
Of course, Jen may follow up later in India. According to the Mayo Clinic's page on the procedure, “The balloon in the stomach is left in place for up to 6 months, and then it is removed using an endoscope. At that time, a new balloon may or may not be placed, It depends on the plan you and your doctor determine.”
What is intragastric balloon placement?
The weight loss surgery Jen had was a little bit different than the ones on the show, like my 600 lb life. These are bariatric surgery procedures that involve incisions and sectioning. This does not appear to be the case with intragastric balloon placement.
From Mayo Clinic:
Intragastric balloon placement is a weight loss procedure that involves placing a saline-filled silicone balloon in your stomach. This can help you lose weight by limiting how much you eat and making you feel full faster.
If you are concerned about your weight and diet and exercise are not working for you, intragastric balloon surgery may be an option.
Like other weight loss procedures, intragastric ballooning requires a commitment to a healthier lifestyle. You will need to make permanent healthy changes to your diet and exercise regularly to help ensure the long-term success of your surgery.
It'll be interesting to see if Jen ever mentions her weight loss routine in India, or if that part of her story is glossed over a bit to make way for all the inevitable drama with Rishi's family.
