Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium mixing bowl add sugar, brown sugar and melted butter and beat until creamy. Add peanut butter, eggs, and vanilla and beat until smooth and creamy.
Add flour and baking soda and mix well.
Scoop or roll dough into 1.5-inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Use the bottom of a glass (coated with sugar) to flatten each ball.
To make a heart-shaped top, use the handle of a butter knife or fork to cut into the top center of the dough. Press outward to the right and left to form a “V”.
Pinch the bottom of the dough between your thumb and forefinger to make a “V” at the bottom of the heart. You can use your hands to complete the heart shape if desired.
Take a fork and press down on the dough, criss-crossing in the heart shape.
Bake for 10-12 minutes. Be careful not to over bake or your cookies will be hard.
