Rebel Wilson rewears old Oscars dress after weight loss
It pays to keep special items.
Rebel Wilson dug into her fashion archives for the 2023 Oscars red carpet, choosing the gown she wore to Sunday night's Vanity Fair Oscars at the same ceremony in 2020.
“Oscars 2023. Sustainably re-wearing the @jasonwu dress I wore to the Oscars years ago,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram post on Monday, along with a clip of the actress decked out for Hollywood's biggest night video.
The “Higher Class” star, 43, wore a custom sparkling off-the-shoulder gown as she held hands with fiancée Ramona Agruma, 37, in a sheer draped silhouette.
Wilson wore Simon G. Jewelry and a rainbow clutch by Kurt Geiger, perhaps a nod to the LGBT flag following the launch of the “label-free” queer dating app Fluid.
Fans of the “Pitch Perfect” alumni applauded Wilson for returning to the stunning look years later.
“Yes, to re-wear! Looks incredible 😍😍😍😍,” one fan commented on her post.
“I love that dress, it's a shame you only wore it once! ❤️,” wrote a second person.
“You were beautiful then and you are,” a third added.
“Beautiful, hope more people get back into costumes, gowns, etc! Makes sense. Cut down on child labor and do something good for the environment,” said another.
Her stylist, Elizabeth Stewart, also celebrated Wilson's sustainability efforts with a gushing Instagram post.
“Another Australian Sustainability Queen! @rebelwilson re-wearing this incredible custom @jasonwu gown made for the 2020 Oscars,” Stewart wrote in a post on Monday.
Wilson originally wore the sparkling dress to the 92nd Academy Awards when she took to the stage as host.
“I never thought I could wear a dress like this and take it off,” she told “Access Hollywood” on the red carpet that year, adding that she had to sew her bra into the gown.
Around that time, the Australian started her “fitness year” and ended up losing more than 70 pounds by November 2020. She previously shared that she wanted to lose weight to improve her chances of having a baby.
“It first started when I was researching fertility issues, and the doctor said, ‘Well, if you're healthier, you have a better chance,'” Wilson shared in July 2021.
She added, “That's how it started, if I lose some extra pounds I'll have a better chance of freezing my eggs and making them better quality. It's not even really me, it's more thinking Future mini-me, really.”

However, she finally welcomed her first child, daughter Royce Lillian, via surrogate in November 2022.
It was unclear what alterations had been made to the dress for re-wearing purposes, and a representative for Wilson did not immediately respond to a Page Six Style request for comment.
