Mindy Kaling has become the latest celebrity to spark rumors that she's taking the hit drug Ozempic after appearing at the 2023 Oscars.
Along with Wegovy, Ozempic is the brand name for the drug semaglutide — a once-weekly injection drug originally developed for diabetes that was approved in 2021 to treat obesity.
It's rumored to be popular among Hollywood celebrities for weight loss, though few have publicly talked about using it. At Sunday's Oscars, host Jimmy Kimmel said in his opening remarks: “Everyone looks great. As I look around the room, I can't help but wonder ‘Is Ozempic right for me?'”
After Kaling was spotted on the red (or “champagne”) carpet looking slimmer than she used to be, some viewers joked on Twitter college girl sex life Writer loses weight by using Ozempic. Insider has reached out to Kaling's representatives for comment.
The 43-year-old actress and producer has not responded to the rumours, but has previously said her weight loss — reportedly over 40 pounds — was down to a healthier lifestyle.
In April 2022, Kaling told Entertainment Weekly that she had lost weight after giving birth to her son during the COVID pandemic in September 2020 and stopped “eating what I looked at without thinking about what I ate.”
“Honestly, I'm not doing anything different. I eat what I like. If I do any kind of restrictive diet, it never really works for me. I just eat less… . . I wish there was something more juicy or energizing the way I lost a little weight, but that's how I did it.”
She said she ate grilled salmon and sautéed spinach to lose weight for a movie two months after giving birth to her daughter in 2017, but didn't return to the diet after giving birth to her son in 2020 because she didn't have the pressure to lose weight during quarantine.
She told TODAY that after the lockdown was lifted, she began to diet less and become more active.
“Sometimes I say, ‘Okay, I have four different times today and I have ten minutes, so let's walk instead of sitting and checking Instagram,'” she says.
