However, just because Sogani says you can eat pizza on a diet doesn't mean you can overindulge.
Even on your weight loss journey, nutritionist Aanchal Sogani says yes to pizza.
A strict diet, intense exercise, and cutting out all kinds of high-calorie and junk food can be essential elements in your weight loss plan. One food on your list of foods to avoid when you're trying to lose weight is pizza. For pizza lovers, going months without a slice can often become difficult. But what if we said you can have your favorite pizza without dieting? While most doctors and health professionals will advise you to the contrary, nutritionist Aanchal Sogani says yes to pizza, even on your weight loss journey.
Sogani stresses that when you're trying to lose weight, the focus should be on putting your body into a calorie deficit. Simply put, this means that you should eat fewer calories than your body normally burns. She recommends eating pizza during weight loss, “You need to be mindful of portion sizes and how often you eat. One way to do that is to choose a smaller sized pizza or share it with others.”
Moving on, she also suggests that you should switch to healthier options instead of conventional ingredients. She favors “replacing a white flour crust with a whole wheat crust, which provides more fiber and nutrients. Plus, adding plenty of vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, spinach, and tomatoes increases the nutrient density of your pizza while maintaining Lower calorie content.
However, just because Sogani says you can eat pizza on a diet doesn't mean you can overindulge. It's also important to remember that pizza should be eaten in moderation, not as a mainstay of the diet, warns the nutritionist.
She stresses the importance of eating a balanced diet that includes “a variety of fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains, which are critical for weight loss.”
More than just a healthy diet, you should incorporate regular exercise into your routine. “Paired with a healthy diet, exercise can help you lose weight and keep it off over the long term,” she says. Plus, it can help you burn off excess cheese pizza calories to reach your weight loss goals.
